Golden Eagles and ice-cold lochs rich in trout and salmon characterise this beautiful region, loaded with history since early Christian times. This region marks the transition from Lowlands to Highlands and was once part of Dalriada, the ancient kingdom of the Scotti – Irish Celts who settled here in the 5th century.
Out to sea, the Isles of the Inner Hebrides produce whiskies of strikingly individual character. Their surrounding waters are popular with sailors, making the most of the mild climate brought with the Gulf Stream. This climate also nurtures strangely out-of-place sub-tropical plants and gardens on the sheltered mainland.
