One of the first regions of Scotland to become a popular holiday destination, the Trossachs are often called ‘The Highlands in Miniature’ due to their mix of small lochs, steep wooded glens and romantic craggy mountains. This area is the stamping ground of heroic outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor, who along with the region was made famous by historical novelist Sir Walter Scott. Historically, ‘The Trossachs’ referred to a narrow wooded glen between Loch Katrine and Loch Achray, though the name now applies to a larger area of exceptional walking country between Argyll and Perthshire.
