Scottish Regions

This vast expanse of water runs 23 miles (36.8km), south to north, below the sharp peaks and forest slopes of the Trossachs. The A82 runs along Loch Lomonds western shore for almost the entire length of the loch; however, the only way of following its eastern bank is to put on your hiking boots and walk the West Highland Way.

To the south, the Antonine Wall cuts across Scotland’s narrowest part, defining the effective northern extremity of Roman territory in Britain. To the west, the Cowal peninsula stretches out to the Firth of Clyde, flanked by beautiful Loch Fyne and dark Loch Long.

Loch Lomond must be the worlds most famous Loch and has been much written about, both in song and verse. The area is renowned for its beauty and tranquility and offers picture postcard views around every corner.

The Loch is crossed by the Highland Boundary Fault and exhibits the physical characteristics of both highland and Lowland Scotland. Some 200 species of birds and over 25% of Britain's wild plants have been recorded in the area.
