Largs
North Ayrshire’s most attractive town is a popular yachting and diving centre, backed by high wooded hills. Just outside the town is the Pencil Monument, commemorating the Battle of Largs in 1263, where the Scots finally defeated the Vikings, ending the Norse reign over much of the mainland and Western Isles.
