Bute Separated from the mainland by the narrow Kyle of Bute, with hills in the north rolling down to quiet, sandy beaches. The isle of Bute has been a popular place to visit since Victorian times, as the stately mansions overlooking shallow Rothesay bay disclose. Surprisingly, palm trees flourish in the Gulf Stream climate along the elegant promenade. Even more surprising, are Rothesay’s palatial public toilets, which have recently been restored to their former Edwardian glory after a £300,000 renovation scheme! Not to be missed!
