Shopping in Scotland is now a recreational part of the holiday for some. So many High Streets are duplicates of what you see in the rest of the UK but there are exceptions. There are a few independent stores like Jenners in Princes Street, Edinburgh but as cars are so restricted through poor and expensive parking in the City, out-of-town centres are increasing popular. Factory outlet centres, shops within visitor centres, places like House of Bruar near Blair Atholl are all part of general recreational shopping. Tweed and wool shops have home produced goods. In Harris you will find signs to Harris Tweed shops – the authentic tweed, made at home. Campbell’s of Beauly for a fine selection of tweeds and Johnstons of Elgin for cashmere.
Some glass produced in Scotland is superb, particularly Edinburgh
Crystal and Caithness Glass. All around the country there are
jewellery makers producing brooches with Celtic themes, quaichs
(drinking cups) in silver and other metals and there are online
shops here
